On this week’s Smackdown Live, we’re a week removed from Daniel Bryan announcing his return to in ring competition, firing Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens, and then getting attacked. We’re also coming off stories all week that Shane McMahon came down with diverticulitis while on holiday and will require surgery which will likely keep him off Wrestlemania. So what are they going to do with the Daniel/Shane/Kevin/Sami feud has been going on for the better part of a year now? Let’s find out.
Daniel Bryan has a new t-shirt.
Now that we’ve got the most important thing out of the way, Daniel came out onto the ramp and didn’t do the Yes chants. He’s all business tonight folks. He announced that he’s going to give Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens one more opportunity, but just the one. It will be Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn vs Shane McMahon & Daniel Bryan at Wrestlemania. If Shane and Bryan win, KO and Sami remain fired. If KO and Sami win, they will be reinstated to Smackdown Live (he emphasized Smackdown Live).
He also mentioned the story that Shane has been hospitalised, but he said that he believes he will be ready to go. This was followed up later by the announcers who mentioned that Shane has been discharged. I’m still pretty doubtful on that if reports are to be believed. We might end up with a surprise partner at Mania.
Daniel goes on to say that he has given them so many opportunities because they are 2 of the greatest performers of this generation. He has known them for 15 years. When he needed place to stay, they gave him a bed. And also because that is his job as general manager. You know, land of opportunity, all that bullshit.
As GM, he is supposed to sit in boardrooms, fill out paperwork, wear blazers or cardigans. Well he’s sick of meetings and paperwork and blazers or whatever the hell that thing is (as he takes off his cardigan blazer thing). He fought for 3 years for his dream and KO and Sami tried to take it away from him. Daniel Bryan is back and Daniel Bryan will fight at Wrestlemania. This is a different Daniel Bryan and he’s gonna kick KO and Sami Zayn’s ass at Wrestlemania. Bring it to fuck on.
AJ and Shinsuke have a little chat. Shinsky Naks says he’s worried about AJ, that he thinks AJ has lost his confidence. Nakamura says they want each other to be at their best for Wrestlemaniaa so he wants AJ to be in his corner for his match tonight. AJ agrees because YOLO.
Later on, we get Shinsuke Nakamura vs Shelton Benjamin with AJ Styles and Chad Gable at ringside. Gable tries to get involved at one stage but AJ stops him. Nakamura picks up the win with a Kinshasa. He then gets on mic and invites AJ into the ring. Shinsuke thanks AJ for being in his corner but said he never really needed his help. He just wanted AJ to see how he going to be beaten at Wrestlemania. Nice mind games being played here by Shinsky.
AJ said that at Mania, he won’t be playing any games, it’s a dream match for him, and when he defeats Nakamura, it will prove that this is house that AJ Styles built #Merch. Shinsuke makes some weird faces and noises to emphasise that AJ is too emotional and says that’s why he will beat AJ. Gable and Benjamin attack AJ. Nakamura fights them off then teases hitting AJ with the Kinshasa stopping just in front of him telling him “Knee to Face” before patting him on the head. It’s nice to see Shinsuke getting to show some personality. More please. Also this match is going to be awesome at Mania.
The night started off with Bobby Roode & Randy Orton vs Jinder Mahal and Sunil Singh. But wait… it didn’t. Dun Dun Dun. Sunil came out in a sling and Jinder informed us that he had a new partner. We were going to feel the wrath of the tiger from Sunil Singh, but now we will feel the wrath of a lion instead. It’s Rusev Day. WAHEY!!! Sunil tries to get involved in the match and Roode goes to attack him but Randy attacks gets to him first. Bobby and Randy keep tagging themselves in and trying to one up each other. Dissension in the ranks. Roode ends up accidentally hitting Orton and gets RKO’d for his troubles. Rusev hits a Machka Kick on Orton and picks up the win.
Backstage afterwards, Jinder says he’s gonna get Rusev front row tickets to Mania and invite him to his championship celebration afterwards. Rusev has a better idea and says he’s gonna go find D Bry and get added to the match. This is made official later on so we have a Fatal 4 Four for the US Title between Bobby Roode, Randy Orton, Jinder Mahal and Rusev. Rusev better win. The crowd at Mania will go nuts if he doesn’t. And I wanna see him as champ. Please WWE, please.
We had the New Day vs Bludgeon Brothers on the show marking the first time that the full New Day had been there since they got murdered at Fastlane. The New Day started out with a promo where they said that they had been set on the highway to Wrestlemania but there was trash in their path. Large, smelly, disgusting, sweaty, hairy, terrible, horrible, no good, very bad pieces of trash. They clarified that they meant the Bludgeon Brothers to clear up any confusion.
The match happened, Rowan went to get the mallets and the Usos attacked him. The Usos and New Day took out BB and then started a shoving match between themselves. BB comes in with the hammers and chase the others off. Harper managed to give the ring canvas a full swing with the hammer and nothing was the result. Some sturdy hammers right there. Later on, it was confirmed that we will have a Triple Threat match from the Tag Team Titles at Mania as was expected all along.
