Arsenal have today announced the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabon International striker joins Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund for a fee believed to be in the region of £60m.
The former Dortmund striker joins Arsenal on a long term deal, the details of which are yet to be disclosed. Dortmund were only going to allow the transfer to go through if they were able to find a suitable replacement. It seems Dortmund will sign Michy Batshuayi from Chelsea on loan to fill the gap left by Aubameyang.
After a terrible loss to basement side Swansea City on Tuesday night this should be music to Arsenal fans ears.
Mesut Ozil has also reportedly signed a new contract. The German World Cup Winner will put pen to paper on a new deal making him the highest paid player in Arsenal history at £350k a week. If you discount the hysteria over United signing Sanchez and the inflated newspaper headline amounts attributed to the deal, this makes Ozil at least the second highest paid player in the league.
Arsenal’s attacking line up has been completely transformed in the last 2 weeks. They now boast a front two of Aubameyang and Lacazette with Ozil and Mkhitaryan behind them. With Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan Arsenal have a natural partnership. If they can repeat their form at Dortmund together Arsenal have a great chance of finishing in the top four. However, wth the teams ahead of them Wenger may look to the Europa League as their best route back into the Champions League.
