Harry Kane ends 2017 as the top goalscorer in the world. Kane has scored more goals than Lionel Messi & Cristiano Ronaldo in the calendar year of 2017. Not bad for a one-season-wonder!
Since 1995, Alan Shearer has held the record for goals scored in a calendar year when he scored 36 goals. There have been many pretenders to the thrown in the past 22 years – namely Thierry Henry & Robin van Persie – but no one has been able to come close to Shearer until now.
Kane, 24, has smashed Shearer’s record by scoring 39 Premier League goals in only 36 games! An impressive record of more than a goal per game! (Shearer scored 36 goals in 42 games).
No one can deny it, Kane is a special once-in-a-lifetime-talent. He manages to play the lone striker role like a vintaged pro, while integrating seamlessly with his support team of Eriksen, Son & Dele!
I think the main reason people like Kane is the fact he comes across as a genuinely nice guy who has worked his ass off to get where he is and is grounded enough to appreciate he must continue to put in 100% in order to stay at the top of his game!
Another reason I love watching Kane play is the hunger he shows both on and off the pitch. He leads the high pressing game synonymous with Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs side over the past few years and chases back, makes tackles and breaks his back for the team, we don’t see that from other leading strikers! But off the pitch Kane has an eagerness to learn and develop every aspect of his game, this has been very noticeable this season as Kane has been more physically dominant than in season past. This is something he has eluded to in numerous interviews.
Fully appreciate this is purely personal opinion, but in my mind, Harry Kane is the best player in the league.
The NFL has an award for the Most Valuable Player which goes to the player which has made the biggest impact that season. The player who wins may not be the fastest, strongest or most skillful, but the contribution they have made was more significant than any other player.
It’s possible that Kane is more deserving of the MVP award rather than simply saying he is the best player in the league. Considering there are players such as Edin Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne & Paul Pogba it is difficult to say Kane is better than them, but no one will convince me that Kane is a lesser player to any of these guys.
Kane will be the most sought after striker in the world. He could walk into any team in the world and make an immediate impact. So will he stay at Spurs? As a Spurs fan I sincerely hope he does.
He is ‘One of our own’ and being a Spurs fan and having come through the academy he does have a massive loyalty to the club. He can stay at the club as long as he wants, and the club will continue to give him what ever he wants!
Loyalty can only stretch so far however, he needs to (and deserves to) win trophies! Simply put, the longer Spurs go without silverware then the less likely it is that Kane will stick around for a long time.
At only 24, he hasn’t even reached his prime yet and probably has 7/8 top years left in him if he continues his current form and can stay injury free. So the world is his oyster, he holds the cards and time will tell what hand he plays, so for now all we can do is sit back and enjoy watching this guy doing his thing!
