Welcome to my 2Bits on this week’s NXT. This week’s show comes to us from San Antonio, Texas. So was actually recorded before Takeover. We’re getting Tyler Bate & Trent Seven vs Pete Dunne & Mark Andrews and Kairi Sane vs Peyton Royce. But we’re starting off with….
The commentary is dubbed over pretty badly and is way too low. Whoever mixed this needs to be fired. Sabatelli and Moss need a tag team name. I’m tired of keeping typing it out. Montez Ford being awesome as usual.
My wife is putting up the Christmas decoration so I’m a bit distracted and not paying full attention but the match seems grand. And the audio issues are starting to level out a bit. Moss is gyrating for some reason. Sabbatelli and Moss try to cheat using leverage from the outside on a pin. Montez Ford retaliates by diving on them. He then gets a Frog Splash for the win.
This venue is a legit movie theatre. It looks really weird. It’s also way too bright. NXT usually hates the light. Also we have no Nigel on commentary. He must have not been around for the dubbing.
Tyler Bate and Trent Seven are chatting to Christy St Cloud giving out about Dunne abandoning Wolfgang a few weeks ago. They say they are a proper tag team, Mustache Mountain. Andrews says he’s got a deal where if they win, he becomes no. 1 contender for the title and that’s the only reason he’s in the match.
I don’t like Kairi’s new music. I’m sure it will grow on me but her old one was so much better, upbeat and happy. Fantastic bounce off the ropes into a headscissors by Sane. Spinning Heel Kick by Peyton after a distraction by Billie. Sane spears the shit out of Peyton. A bunch of other stuff happening in between all this. I’m just calling out the big spots. Running Knee to the face of Sane for a 2 count. Sane beats on the midsection of Peyton Royce with punches and kicks. Takes Billie out. Then hits the Insane Elbow for the win.
We’re getting a No Hold Barred match between Ruby Riot (I refuse to say Riott) and Sonya Deville next week. I guess they worked this week’s tapings. Probably their last NXT appearance so.
We’re also getting a Championship Celebration from Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas next week.
Christy St. Cloud is a terrible ring announcer. Crowd love the Bruiserweight. Some nice back and forth to start off. Dunne goes for the tag but instead forearms the fuck out of Bate. Some nice double teaming from Moustache Mountain. Dunne tags in Mandrews but the ref doesn’t see it so Dunne tells him that Mandrews is trying to get into the ring and then forearms Seven right in the face. All the forearms from Dunne in this one.
Dunne and Mandrews team up with a Backstabber/double knees combo on Seven. Never seen that before. That was nice. Dunne tags himself in quite hard. Mandrews doesn’t seem happy. Trent Short-arm Clotheslines Dunne. Bate is in now showing off all his strength and athleticism throwing Dunne around and doing a standing Shooting Star Press. He’s only 20, for fucks sake.
Standing Corkscrew Moonsault by Mandrews for a 2 count. Mandrews brings Bate to the top rope, Dunne tags himself in. Mandrews hits a Frankensteiner on Bate and Dunne catches him in a Sitout Powerbomb for a 2 count. Bob and Bang by Tyler. Trent gets the pin and hits Dunne with a quick Snap Dragon Suplex. Then some more awesome stuff happens. Just watch it I can’t keep up.
Deadlift Suplex by Tyler. Dunne gets the tag. Not a legal pin is broken up by a Moonsault from Mandrews. Mandrews goes for a Shooting Star, misses it. Tyler does an Airplane Spin. Pete tags in while they are spinning. Punches Tyler right in the jaw and throws him into the ropes. Tyler bounces off and hits a forearm. Then gets Dunne with a Tyler Driver ‘97 for the win.
Fantastic match right there. Pure indie match and I loved it. Sets up another match between Dunne and Bate too. Which I definitely would not complain about. Their Takeover Chicago match is still my Match of the Year.
After the match, Mandrews picks Dunne up but then Peter attacks him from behind and hits a Bitter End to close out the show. Probably gonna be his next title match.
I really enjoyed this week’s NXT. That main event was awesome and the other 2 matches were fun too. Considering this was another holdover episode until the next tapings which took place this week (no spoilers), it definitely overachieved what it should have been.
